Trainers and parents try not to have a favorite. Ken Wold definitely has a favorite, Brother Jackson (Peptoboonsmal x Shes Icing Onthe Cat x High Brow Cat). “As you probably know, I love Brother Jackson, everything about him. One of his greatest attributes is that he always gives 110% each time we walk in the show pen.” But he’s not alone, Brother Jackson has his own fan club. “It’s funny to say that a horse has a fan base, but Brother Jackson does. He has such a personality. People come by his stalls to visit and take pictures with him, and he LOVES it.”
The 2022 NSHA Open Bridle at the NSHA Futurity, Derby, Spectacular and World’s Greatest Horseman Show had 48 of the greatest Bridle Horses in the nation. Ken Wold and Brother Jackson came to the NSHA Open Bridle to win. “To say I was proud of how Brother Jackson performed was an understatement.” Brother Jackson earned a combined winning score of 294.
“I love to show Brother Jackson at South Point because the ground is so good. Normally in the rein work, I don’t run him too hard in the circles. When we hit the middle of the pen, I asked him to build momentum for his large fast. He hit another gear and WOW what a ride! Brother Jackson is such an honest horse and has never cheated me on a lead change. After the circles when he came around the corner for the run down I was so proud of how he continued to stay framed up and drove up the whole maneuver. He pushed the ground so hard when he stopped, it felt like he hit the concrete under the dirt. I had to ask him to step forward a bit after the stop because he was so deep. Then we he started the revolution, it was just outstanding.” The exciting run scored a 73.5 in the rein work.
“The charolais cattle had been really really tough all day. I prayed I didn’t draw one of those, and of course I did. It was a dirty, rotten rascal. While we were boxing, the cow challenged Brother Jackson on the ends and the middle. Brother Jackson truly enjoys the test! The thought as we left the end, ‘Ok Brother Jackson, here we go.’ And what a RIDE! The first turn on the fence was huge. Brother Jackson swallowed the cow. The next brought him off the fence to circle tight and strong each way right in the MIDDLE of the pen. TO say I was proud of my horse is an understatement.” For their efforts the duo scored a 73.5 in the cow work.
“The venue at the South Point is the best in the Nation, and I mean that literally. South Point takes pride in the care they give their ground and it shows; by the huge reining scores, and the lack of a line around the veterinarians booth. Paired with the NSHA, it’s a winning combination. The staff at the NSHA are absolutely the best in the industry. They make every single person attending, from the owner, exhibitor to the spectator feel welcome. How many events this big have free admission to the general spectator? Top it off with the climate controlled stalling areas and the horses are comfortable 24 hours a day. Ramona and I have been a sponsor of the NSHA since it began. We are both advocates for the NRCHA and all the affiliates. Our thought is if we don’t support our regions the national association will not thrive.”
For all the Brother Jackson fans!!! We will be showing at the NRCHA Snaffle Bit Futurity Open Bridle in Fort Worth TX, October 2022. I am so thankful for the opportunity Dan Perez (Brother Jackson’s owner) gave me when he allowed me to train and show Brother Jackson. I am very gratefully and honored to be a part of Brother Jackson’s career.
